WEEKEND HAPPENINGS!

~~Sunday~~

The 1st of the year is already been busy.
We got a few minor projects down around the house. Been cleaning up the garage. When it got cold outside we used the garage to store things and thaw out hoses. I mean every hose we had was frozen. Not smart to leave them out but it amazed me how fast they froze. Learning lessons everyday.

Mr. B brought over some hay on the trailer and small bales of alfalfa hay.

Kaitlin got the feeder rings moved. We decided to let the cows work the ground where we are putting the new garden come spring. They do amazing work and the manure will already be where we want it.

Only want one off here. So Tim and Mr B tied the other back so when it unloaded only one would fall out.

The second hay bale being dumped out.

 Ring one on hay stack.

 Ring two done!

Unloading the alfalfa hay in barn.

Now we are out to check out the cows. Remember I said we had one or two that will be delivering come winter. Well, we are in winter and one looks close to calving.

Looks like this group (6) all but one is pregnant.
Two of them will deliver in the next few months and the rest will deliver in the summer.

The one on the far left (Red) is ready and the other one on the far right (White with black face) will deliver in about a month. The other two will deliver in summertime.

Red is the smallest cow and from this angle barely looks big. She is camera shy and won't let us get close to her.

Harley the bull.

Life on a homestead faces many things. We grow from the lessons we learn. Some are tougher than others. When your kids heart hurts because of something they love dies. It's hard on a parent seeing them going through this. The only thing we can do is hold them and love them. We haven't lived here on the homestead a year yet and we have had our fair share of animal deaths here. Some by us and some by something else.

 Remember these kittens?
We got them 6 months ago. The one on the far right had already passed away. Left us two.

Baby Ninja sure had a rough start.

But month after month she got stronger,

 Healthier,

 Curious,

 More affectionate,

And had a Best Friend!

Ninja kitty we will miss you!
