CHILI AND CORNBREAD AND ADD BROWNIES

Mom bought this pressure cooker at a garage sale two years ago. So yesterday, she finally used it.
We are making chili and cornbread.

This is the beans cooking. I forgot to take a picture of them before I (Krystal) started the process.
The beans after they cooked
I strained them and put them back in the pot. I then added 1/2 cup of chicken broth, salt and pepper and cooked it on low. This was to just let everything cook into to the beans.
 Sautee the onions
 Cooking up some hamburger
Everything is ready to be added to the dutch oven.
I like cooking in this.
Adding our canned tomatoes and some garlic
Add some seasonings: Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder, Chili Powder
Let it cook!
Skylar making homemade cornbread
We mill our own flour. It taste so much better.
Yep cooking it in the cast iron skillet. Its the best!
20 minutes and dinner will be done.

DESSERT TIME

LOOKS YUMMY!

So, Skylar decided we all were hungry for brownies. Ok just kidding. She was hungry for brownies.
I wonder if she plans on sharing?
In goes the brownies because our dinner is done

Table is set and we are ready!
Oops forgot the sour cream

Doesn't that just look YUMMY!

Kaitlin's New Spring/Summer Toad

Meet BUDDY TOAD FREED

Every summer Mom let's me keep frogs or toads I find for the summer.
Last summer it was about seven tree frogs, now its a toad.( I have no idea what type
of toad Buddy is) Buddy is very playful and funny, I only got him a few days ago but
we already had a few adventures! Like a staring contest with a cricket and chicken, for example. (Buddy won the staring contests) Today when I took him inside so I could find out what type of toad he is (And he was shivering because it was kinda cold out.) he was hopping and crawling all over my desk, also when I try to put him down he hangs on to my hand and when I touch him he croaks or something as you'll hear in the video Mom recorded.

Schooling

So here is us doing school today..

I am reading Growing up Duggar, one of our Character Study Books
I also gave Kaitlin a piano lesson today,

Dinner = Thrown together!

Last night we had..dinner. We don't actually know what it's called but it's chicken, brats, carrots, potatoes, onion and garlic. We had this when we were at Silver Dollar City.

The ingredients

Cut the onion up onto big-ish pieces

And the chicken, cut that up

Plus the potatoes and carrots. Put 'em in the pan

Cook the brats

Season the potatoes and carrots and the chicken.

And cook the chicken..
And then add the garlic. (My mom is really big on garlic!)
Add it all together and EAT!!
Mkay so this was really good! I especially liked the potatoes!

RED CARDINAL

We have this little guy by our window every morning, and I (Krystal) finally got a good picture of him. His little lady friend is also hard one to get a picture of. I got lucky this morning and was able to get this of him. I just like the dark red coloring of him, we have another male but he is smaller in size. We also have 6 young american gold finches at our feeder. They are much harder to photograph. They won't stick around if we are outside and they don't come back to the feeder.

Saturdays Foil Dinners!

So on Saturday, we had some friends over and our brother Jake and Ashley for dinner. We made foil dinners in the firepit and we had to put it all together ourselves! We had potatoes, carrots, hamburger, onions (for flavor) and lemonade for a drink.

Dad got all the foil out.
