WEEKEND HAPPENINGS!

Remember the pile of firewood the girls and I got moved this summer? We just kept adding to the pile.

We moved it from here.

 To here!

A friend of ours let us borrow his log splitter.
This makes the job easier. At some point we will need to invest in one.

Tim is getting the logs split and stacked on pallets.

Look at the pile now. He is seriously getting it done.

He added more pallets to keep stacking.

Looking good!

The girls and I finished up our projects and came to help Tim.

Team work!

Skylar and Kaitlin got a load of logs from the woods.

Remember those bags of apples some friends picked up for us?
The girls have been eating some of them. The rest is going dehydrated. Yum!

 Update on Sweetheart -
She is doing great. She is back with the rest of the hens.
Both feet are healed.

She is just happy to be out of the cage.

The other day it rained here and lots of wind and cold.
Tim noticed one of the turkeys wasn't doing good and had blood on her head. Looks like a gash and she was running a fever. So we brought her into the hen house and got the heat light on to dry her as she was shivering. Got her some medicine in her water. We will check on her in the morning.

It's been a couple of days and she is eating well and drinking. We have been putting medicine on her head 3X's a day. She is all dry and looking good.

As you can see her head is all scabbed up now.
She is very active and probably ready to go. We will leave her in for another week to make sure she is healed before adding her back with the other turkey's.

This is a cherry tomato plant. I don't know if you can see all the flowering on this but it isn't ready to die yet. Tons of tomatoes on the bottom area.

I gathered up a basket of herbs to put in the dehydrator.
Filled it up with:
Catnip
Sage
Lemon Balm
Rosemary
Chives
Thyme
Basil
Horehound

Once it is dried I will gather up another big batch.

WE GOT PUPPIES!!!!

WE GOT PUPPIES!!!

Yes, puppies!
We were looking for one and got two.
Well, the girls got the puppies themselves.

Just look at them.
Aren't they adorable!

This is Kaitlin's puppy, Scout.

This is Skylar's puppy, Shadow.

They are 1/2 Boarder Collie/Australian Shepherd.
We picked them up and the girls were so excited.

Skylar's very own puppy to raise.

Kaitlin's very own puppy to raise.

 Puppy time!
When we got them they didn't walk very well.
So they are learning. I know it won't take them long to learn that.

I really like the new puppies!

Some of the other animals on the homestead don't feel the same way we do.
That is Bandit with Shadow. Cuddles just don't want anything to do with them or us right now.

Scout with Bandit.
You can see the other cats don't want to be that close.

WEEKEND HAPPENINGS!

Just a quick update on the homestead.

Hope is doing a great job watching over the chickens and turkeys.
She is in the front pasture watching over everything.

EmilyMae came to stay with us.
She is hanging out with her Auntie Skylar.

EmilyMae and Grandpa taking care of the turkeys.

Before long the leaves will be off of the trees.
The weather has been either super warm or super cold.

Auntie Skylar taking EmilyMae for a ride on the 4-wheeler.

We got our evening chores done in the dark.

Tim and Kaitlin working on a project together.

We had a few baby chicks hatch.

One of our friends gave us a baby chick.
We added her to Ms. Boss and her babies.

All are doing great together. Ms. Boss has 5 baby chicks with her.

I really like watching them interact together.

The fifty-four babies aren't babies anymore. They are growing and we are gonna be adding them soon to the hen house.

SURGERY ON ANOTHER CHICKEN **GRAPHIC

What a beautiful morning!
It is starting to look like fall around here.

******* WARNING GRAPHIC ******

Meet Amera!
She is an ameraucana chicken.

The other night I found her hiding. I wondered why???
When we picked her up she had a lump on her back. Now I know why, those roosters would hurt her if they got on her back. It's a fluid like abscess.

You might be wondering what is our plan?

We need to drain it. This is full of bacteria/puss and will eventually take her life if left untreated.

First attempt was to drain it with a needle. The needle we had was small and gonna take a long time to drain.Tim is making a small opening to allow it to drain.

Lots of puss came out.
This is not fun to do but she did really good.

Looks like we might of got all of it out.
Time to wrap her up.

We have her in a cage separately from the others while she heals.

Amera is doing good and healing nicely.
