Guineas, Turkeys and Black Copper Marans

I can thank my hubby for this. Bless his heart. He brought home 5 guineas, 2 turkeys, and 3 black copper marans. I really wanted the guineas for their love of mosquitoes and ticks. We really need them here on the homestead. The black copper marans was for their dark chocolate eggs (just the shell). And the turkeys, ya all can guess Thanksgiving and Christmas. We didn't name them that, but it is tempting.

Look how small this Black Copper Maran is!

Awww, so exciting watching them grow.
Not sure of the sex of them.

 This is Mr. Tom

 Again, Mr Tom
He doesn't like to stay on his side of the 2 part area.
The rooster don't much care for him coming over either.

UPDATE ON OUR MEATIES!

Yep, they are getting BIG! They are at butchering time. But we waited a little longer. Due to not enough time in a day. We started with 10. We lost one early, it didn't have a chance. It barely got its white feathers in before the others stomped it to death. So that left us 9. Then, one hobbled around with one leg working, then the other leg went out. No, the other chickens have no mercy on the wounded. They stomped on that one too. They are mean and it was a eye opener to their survival level. So we have 8. They all look good at this point until 3-4 days before butchering. We lost another one. My guess of a heart attack. We ended up butchering the middle of May. The weight on these birds was shocking. You see how big they look in the picture. We decided to weigh them. Their weight ranged between 8-10 lbs. After butchered and gutted they weighed between 7-9 1/2 lbs. This was awesome we have meat in the freezer. So after doing this we gained some more knowledge on caring for them and butchering. We are ready for the next batch.

We had the family over for Memorial Weekend and served 2 whole chickens. There were 14 of us and one chicken could of easily fed us. We barely took any off of the second chicken.
