BUTCHER DAY

Today is the day.....

We are gonna get our meaties butchered and ready for the freezer. We bought some things that would be more helpful now and later down the line. With the 6 meaties to do now and with the 50 we just purchased. So we bought a chicken plucker, 8 kill cones, 2 butcher boards, pot with lid, burner, cooling tank, and a brooder box. We got a amazing deal!

This is the set up. The round tank with 2 hoses coming off it is the chicken plucker. The pot we bought is thicker than what we were using before. Making it better to hold the heat longer.

Got all the supplies ready to go.

Only 5 in this picture cuz we don't wait around for pictures. We moved them up closer to the barn. Not a easy task since they were in the back pasture and they way a ton. We will need to come up with a better method of getting these huge chickens up closer for the next batch. They all are looking good. Looks like we will be butchering 3 roosters this time. We like the roosters because they are bigger but the hens give a good meat too.

Got the 6 chickens butchered and in the cooler to cool them off before we put them in the freezer. The process only took 1 hour, start to finish. Much easier this time with the plucker.

This is the one-legged meatie. Two days before butchering him, he died. Something got a hold of him and Tim found him the next morning. He was doing really good and getting from one side of the long pen to the other. Its really hard getting him this far and he goes out with another hit to him.
