WEEKEND HAPPENINGS!

Don't those chickens just look happy!

APPLE MAKING WEEKEND!
Day 1 ~ Bushel 1

I washed the apples and Skylar peeled and cored them.

Tim and Kaitlin were in charge of cutting them up.
We have 2 bowls. One for the applesauce and the other one for the dehydrator. Tim's mom who bought our dehydrator years ago got me started and now I use it all the time. This year she is letting us borrow her dehydrator. So we will be getting more done in less time.

Now, now, now no hurting the help!

This is a new pot just for this project. Ok not really but it is new.
Tim pick this up on Friday.

Tim is helping with the peeling and coring.

Now that is a lot of trays. This stuff is sooo gooooodd!

Double whammy!

We got one box all peeled, cored and sliced up.
Now we will cook this outside and get ready to can them.

Kaitlin has already picked her favorite chicken out.

Time for the mashing. We made this batch with sugar.

Getting them ladled into the jars.

Skylar wiped off the rims and put the seals and rings on.

Tim placed them in the water.

He got the water level too full.

Now we wait until these are done and then put the next batch in.

First batch done! It is so good to hear them seal.

Got them done for the day. We will do the next batch tomorrow.
Got 12 quarts and 1 pint.

~~ SUNDAY ~~

We getting our day started a little later this morning. Tim and I took a walk into the woods. We are scoping out deer tracks. We found a few spots to hunt.

The dehydrators are done.
We filled up 4 quart jars.

Day 2 ~ Bushel 2

Everyone took their positions to get the job done.
We are doing this batch a little different today.

This batch we have in this pot we are making 5 trays of Apple Leather.

We put it in the blender with a little sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice.

Pouring them in the trays. Can't wait to try them.

Got the trays filled. Now we are gonna make Apple Popsicles.

Don't those look yummy!
Problem is we didn't think about was we have no freezer space.
We are buying another freezer but don't have it yet.

This batch is applesauce. This we doing different from yesterday. We used brown sugar and cinnamon.
It tasted so good.

First batch, one jar broke. Bummer when that happens.
When a jar breaks all the jars will come out sticky.

Got them done.
11 quarts and 1 pint

Had a friend of ours give us 2 batches of meal worms.
So, I am gonna try and grow some.

Tim giving the chickens a 5 gallon bucket full of all the scraps from the apples today. They are feasting now.

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
