WEEKEND HAPPENINGS!

Saturday is gonna be a kick back day! Girls are gone until this evening. Since we got most everything taken care of outside and with it being cold, we are gonna get some of the inside small projects done.

Our morning started out interesting making breakfast and some coffee. Enjoyed watching the animals just being animals.

Tim opened the gate for the cows and bull to go to the back pasture. This will be Hopes first time with electric fencing.

After several passes through the fence we thought she would be fine. I guess she didn't understand and kept running under it and not ducking far enough. She got zapped a couple of times. Now she won't pass through. Not what we were wanting.
We will still need to work with her.

See this funny light switch?
It is our switch to turn on the outside porch light. It has been a pain to use since we have moved in. We have never seen anything like this before.

To get the outside light to come on, you have to push this button.

Then push the other sides button.

Tim removed the base. See the small white thing? Well, that is the switch you move from side to side to turn the light on and off. Weirdest thing ever. Come to find out it is a light that will work with your garage door opener. Yeah, we don't need it.

Finally a normal light switch. Tim also worked on some outlets in the great room. We had several that weren't working and light switches we had no idea that went to what. That is all working now.

Put the ducks over on the chicken side of the yard. Getting them used to it and see how they do. Plans are to butcher the drakes and keep the hens through the winter. So, the plan is to put the female ducks with the chickens.

Tim and I took a drive through our back pasture. We were checking gates and fencing.

Fermenting cabbage is ready to be put in jars.

Got that done!

Getting some homemade yogurt made.

This will sit in the cooler for 5 hours. Then I will refridgerate it.

I put a towel over the cooler to help keep it warm. I also made some homemade butter. Didn't take any pictures of that process.

Meanwhile, Tim is putting new weather stripping on the front door.
Our back screen has had some issues so he is fixing it too.

I made a big pot of chili and we all sat down and watched a movie together when the girls came home.

~~SUNDAY~~

Today is the "The Day!"
I have pleaded my case for King Tom. I gave several reasons why not to have him for Thanksgiving dinner and to take Little Tom instead. Guess what?

Tim had to cut a bucket to fit him in. The chicken kill cones are too small.

King Tom has had a good life here on the homestead and one bad day. I just really pray he tastes good for Thanksgiving. By the way, I can't believe we have less than a week.

King Tom's weight is a little over 11 lbs.
Picking him up felt like he weighed 30 lbs.

We bought this at the store. Girls wanted to try it.
It is a kiwano or horned melon.

Smells like a kiwi.

Tastes like a banana.
Too much work trying to eat this.
You eat the green part. Its hard to eat around the seeds.

Let's make some refried beans.
Had these pinto beans soaking since yesterday when I made the chili. Got them cooked up.

Add some butter to my skillet.

 Strain them into the skillet.

Add some salt and mash, mash and mash.

Add some of the water it cooked in and keep mashing.
We like ours a little chunky.

Made some for now and two to put in the freezer.
This is the good stuff.
