WEEKEND HAPPENINGS!

After being in the city most of the day and with the weather getting bad. We headed home after grabbing a bite to eat. The roads were slick and it took us over an hour to get home that would normally take us 15-20 minutes.

 The girls worked on making their gingerbread house.

 They even got dad to assist.

Weirdest thing happened. The frosting tube just exploded. Never had that happen before.

 So they ended up putting it in a bowl and scooping out what they needed. If plan A doesn't work go to plan B.

 HEY!
 Don't eat that frosting!

 Getting closer.

Skylar and Kaitlin did a great job on their gingerbread house.

~~~   SATURDAY   ~~~
Last nights weather wasn't good. The roads were so bad we saw many cars pulled over, in ditches and Tim saw one truck that was turned over. So waking up this morning everything was covered in thick ice. We rescheduled one of our family Christmas get togethers due to the roads being so icy. No need to get out and someone get stuck or in a wreck. So we are home bound for the weekend.
I know this doesn't look safe but Tim did make sure our pond was good and frozen before we all started playing on the pond. We all were saying we should get some ice skates. That would be fun!
Here is a little video:
Cuddles and Squirt were in the duck house. Maybe they thought it would be warmer.
So far we still have the ducks. Our plans before the bad weather came we were going to butcher 6 of the 8 ducks. Not gonna happen this weekend.
Ninja wanted to be with us just not standing on the pond.
We need new sleds.
We tried looking for large tractor tire tubes. So if you know a place that carries them let us know.
Sunday
I put straw in the boxes to help the cats stay warmer.
It was slick enough to slide down one of our hills.
Hope was out having fun with us!
Cuddles is not liking this cold weather.
A great day for some homemade vegetable soup.
Stew meat
Skylar is learning to make this for us for dinner tonight.
Chop the onions
Diced up potatoes and carrots.
Add the green beans and peas.
We are out doing our evening chores. Making sure the water isn't frozen, locking up animals, checking on cows, collecting eggs.
It is so cold and the wind just blows through you.
But its all worth it especially when our homemade vegetable soup is done. YUM!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SUNDAY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We got snow!

We woke up to this. Isn't that just beautiful.

 After having coffee and biscuits and gravy, Tim headed outside to try out the snow blower he got working.
He said works good just hard to start.

 Skylar and Kaitlin went sledding down the yard and landed in the frozen pond. What fun!

 Tim is working right along. He got part of the driveway done.

 When I came outside I noticed there were no chickens in sight.
I guess with the cold weather they all stayed in. So went to the hen house and look here. Chickens all inside.

 See the box area ...... Sassy Pants is in there.
Last night the wind was blowing so hard that there was snow coming in and landing on her. So we closed her off and she is doing good. I haven't candled all the eggs yet but looks like Christmas Eve- Christmas Day is when we should start seeing some hatching baby chicks. I am so excited!

 The hen house is full of chickens. But this isn't all of them.

 Here is some.

 And the rest of them in the barn along with the cats.
Nobody was going far.

 I don't think the bantys came out either.

 The cows weren't going far from the hay.
Barely any tracks in the far pasture. I don't blame them, its just cold outside.

 Hope was eating snow.

 We got out today and drove to town. Roads look pretty good.

 Just look at that ice glisten.

 Present wrapping day!

 I haven't seen these two today, now I know why.
Glad I got the boxes done for them.

Got the evening chores done and finished wrapping up presents.
Kicked back to watch a movie with the family. Thanks for coming along with us on cold weekend.

At Christmas
A man is at his finest towards the finish of the year;
He is almost what he should be when the Christmas seasons here:
Then he's thinking more of others than he's thought the months before,
And the laughter of his children is joy worth toiling for.
He is less a selfish creature than at any other time;
When the Christmas spirit rules him he comes close to the sublime.
