PART 1 OF HOMESTEAD HAPPENINGS!

The homestead has been crazy busy lately.
(Sorry for the slow postings. Had problems with uploading pictures and internet problems.)

Cuddles
Couldn't resist taking this photo. She just got back from the groomers. She doesn't stay clean for long.

Tim ordered a load of gravel.

That is a huge load of gravel. I wasn't expecting that much.

The garden is still producing.
 I can barely keep up.

Got the banana peppers rinsed off.

Removed the seeds and sliced them. Now I will put them in the freezer for later use.

Washed the green peppers.
The bowl in the back is part of our dinner.

Gonna put them in the freezer too.

Seed saving from the green peppers.

Had a couple of issues with two of the broody hens.
The first one stopped sitting on the eggs, so I gave them to the other hen. She decided to start cracking them open after a week or so of sitting on them. They were close to hatching so...
I put about 16 eggs under Sassy-Pants who already had 18 eggs.
Sassy-Pants was gonna hatch out guinea eggs and the other two hens were gonna hatch out baby chicks. You always have to have a plan B.

So, Plan B was if Sassy-Pants could hatch some of them I would take over and help her with the load.
Once they started to hatch I removed them and brought some to put in the incubator. I left her with just two baby chicks. The guineas were having a harder time staying warm. So I kept them under the heat light.

Surprise we hatched out a Naked-Neck, aka Turken chick.

Kaitlin checking out Sassy-Pants babies.
Meanwhile Sassy-Pants is checking out the other babies in the next stall. We order 10 more chicks.

We got 10 brown leghorns.
All females.

A big project we worked on for two days was moving the storage container. We finally have plans for it.

Tim and Kaitlin worked on this for hours.

He moved the truck and re-strapped it back on the container.

He even was using a racket strap to help guide and move it.

He even had the pickups help.

We needed to take the fence down to get it just right.

We needed to remove the fence post. They will be in the way now of where the container sits.

This is where the container used to sit.

Now it is next to the barn.

Day 2
Tim got railroad ties to put the container on.
This way it won't just be sitting on the ground.

With the help of the skid loader he was able to move the railroad ties.

Now he is leveling it out.

Here comes the gravel he ordered the other day.

Phantom and Bandit

Smoothing it out.

Now that looks good.

Now to power wash the barn to removed that nasty green mossy stuff and dirt.

 Now that looks better.

This is gonna be our new area for when we butcher.

Getting the garden area cleaned up.
We had a huge bon-fire!
