This morning we had some friends over to learn how to can tomatoes.
It is a blessing to know kids want to learn this with their mom. I feel so blessed having my daughters next to me learning how to grow, harvest and preserve food. Not only am I teaching it to them but, they will be able to pass it on. Not many of my friends do any canning so it is really nice to help bless a family by helping them learn what they can preserve for their family.
Todays harvest!
We cored the tomatoes and had them in hot water to help remove the skin. We had out the supplies we needed (Salt, Vinegar, Ladle, Jars, Rings, Seals). We got over half done and waited while the last 2 bowls cooled down. So, this kids went out to be kids and have fun on the farm. That left moms to do what moms do best, talk!
Added in the vinegar and canning salt.
Letting it cook a little before putting it in the jars to seal.
While the tomatoes were cooking, we cut up 2 zucchinis
and .................
........... shredded them!
Measuring out 1 cup.
The girls got them bagged!
5 cups for 2 zucchinis. Placed these in the freezer.
Now the tomatoes are ready!
8 Quarts and 5 pints.
Thanks for the help friends!
May this experience bless your family!
He who gathers in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame.
