We finally got our heifers!
The DEXTERS are here!
We borrowed a trailer from our wonderful neighbors to go pick up our heifers.
Here they are loaded up. They loaded up pretty easy.
It's been pretty rainy and they are muddy for sure.
They are all 1 1/2 years old and hopefully soon we will be breeding them.
We got them from another farmer not far from us.
This is their property full of Dexters.
We got them unloaded from the trailer and that went better than we expected. Our plans are to leave them in the corral for a couple of days until they get used to us.
We are in such awe having them here and that they are ours.
The next morning we are out doing chores but had to stop to just watch the heifers.
They were very curious when Skylar went out to get water from the spigot.
Feeding them some grass.
A couple of days in they are coming up closer to us.
Several days in we finally turned them out to pasture.
They were loving it.
Chickens meet the new heifers.
They are starting to come up to us.
Well, mostly Kaitlin.
She seems the friendiest so far.
They are so used to us now.
We call them and they come running.
They also like watching us do our chores. They are a wonderful addition to our farm.
This is Miss Piggy
She is the friendliest and lets us pet her.
She really likes her horns rubbed and neck scratched.
This is Maple
It has taken her the longest to warm up to us.
She comes running fast when we call and takes food when we give it to her.
This is Sweetheart
She comes up to us but tends to get pushed back from the group.
She is shyer but we can hand feed her.
Miss Piggy, Maple, Sweetheart
