PART 2 OF HOMESTEAD HAPPENINGS!

Tim went to the garden and started clearing out some of our garden area with the skid-loader. Kaitlin stopped him before he took out the kale.

Washed up the kale and layed it out to dry.

I chopped it up and got two big freezer bags full.
This stuff is great in soups.

It just keeps coming. I have some in a wagon in the garage full of tomatoes.

The girls have been loading up this box for a later canning day.

We have been making sour dough starter.
Tim has been using the starter in his famous pancakes.
They are super yummy!

The turkeys are getting so big.
They get so excited when they see people.
Tractor 1

Tractor 2

Remember the 50+ chicks we ordered?
They are getting big fast. Not 100% sure yet what all we have. We were guessing when we first got them. We know for sure Barred Rocks, Silver laced Wyandottes. But we aren't sure of the rest yet. We have some more guesses. Let me know in the comments below if you know what breed they are.

The rest of them.

Sassy-Pants with her two little ones.
They are growing fast.

Had a chicken I have been calling her Little Sweetheart with bumblefoot. So, Tim got it all cut out and now we are letting her heal. That's why the blue wraps are on her feet. She is in a cage in the hen house while she is healing.

Call me crazy if you must, yes I am incubating more little baby chicks.

Adding a little fall with some mums and home-grown pumpkins.

Skylar threaded the chili peppers and habaneros and hung them in the window. Let me just say those habaneros are HOT!

Another canning day.
I don't know how many days its just been several so far.

Skylar blanched them in boiling water and Kaitlin got the skins peeled off of them. I gave them a quick dice and put them in the pot. Not easy taking pictures when your hands are full of tomato juice.

Now that is a funny tomato.

Good and successful day of canning.

The next morning Kaitlin did her history.
She is studying Indian culture.

Here is the book she got the recipe from.
It called for:

2 cups Corn Flour
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 T. Baking Powder
Add warm water until it reaches a dough like consistency.

She put them in the skillet and fried them.

Kaitlin hopes they taste at least okay.

The Indian Fried Bread is done.
We had it with our homemade peach jam.
Not the worst thing I have had before but not something I would want again.

Two full buckets of pears. Our wonderful neighbor invited us over to gather some pears. We went last week and collected a 5 gallon bucket full and she told us to come and get more so we did.

Let's get started canning some Pears today!

Skylar and Kaitlin worked on cutting out the core.
I got them peeled.

We got them ready to water bathe them.

The biggest process was getting them decored.

Decided to try something different.
A few of the jars we are making spiced pears.

Got them done.

Here are the spiced pears.
We are hoping they taste good!
