BUTCHERED THANKSGIVING TURKEYS!!!

Woke up this morning with a dusting of snow.
It's COLD out this morning.
We have 9 turkeys to butcher and get them ready for pick up.
No roosters to butcher today. When I sold some hens they wanted my roosters too.

They have been fun to raise.

Butcher day is the one of the hardest days.

Tim put up a barrier/divider between the turkeys and the kill area.
They don't need to be stressed out watching the others in this area.

On this end, Tim put a tarp to help with the wind.
It is COLD!

Since the chicken plucker won't work for these larger birds. We are using this ladder to hang them.

We put their legs in the groove he cut out.

Tim washed off all the tables.
They all iced up. It's COLD!

Check out the new scalder Tim built.
Last year we tried using a pot that we normally use for the chickens, but the turkeys wouldn't fit.

Tim also made this scalder to hold the correct temperature.
Making it easier to pull the feathers out.

It's gonna be a long day.
So I got the crock pots going for our lunch.

Meatballs

and green beans.

We have a heater at one end for warmth.

The big kill cones are up and ready.

**** NOTHING TOO GRAPHIC
NO BLOOD

Getting started.

Check out the steam.
So far it's working out great.

The first bird on the gutting table.

Us girls keeping warm with the heater until it's our time.

Our break station.
We got coffee, water and granola bars.

*** A LITTLE MORE GRAPHIC

The girls are on a roll now.

We put the different parts in separated buckets.
Nothing gets wasted around here.

Lets not forget Aaron and his dad Tony.
They came over with their 8 turkeys to butcher. It's always nice to have help and get the job done.

Tim added the burn barrel at the other end as it was getting colder.

Skylar warming up.

We had many hands getting the feathers off.

The last bird.

Time for bagging and weighing them big turkeys.

The biggest turkey was 29 1/2lbs. and our lowest at 18 lbs.

We are only bagging 4 of the 9 turkeys.
Aaron bagged all 8 of his.

They are all bagged!

This was a successful butcher day. The setup was a lot smoother and everyone knew their joy. And nobody cut their finger!!!
