OUR 1ST DEER ON OUR PROPERTY!

*** GRAPHIC ***

Super excited Tim got the 1st deer on our property!!!

The weather was turning colder and the morning seemed just right. Tim got up and headed out to see if possibly he could get one.

I got up hearing the 4 wheeler going through the yard.
I look out to see Tim driving it with the trailer on it.
I knew something was up. Then he sends me a picture.

We got to work fast as these chickens and guineas are very curious to anything new in the barn area.

We had a busy morning and afternoon.
Tim is working solo right now getting the meat off of the carcass.

We got several tubs and laminated cards to sort out the meat.
We are placing the meat in the tubs and then putting them in the refrigerator. This will allow the blood to drain away from the meat before we package it.

Tim did a great job, one killing it and then getting everything ready and put in the tubs. The next night we worked on getting everything cut off of the bones and packaged up. We did grind some up for burger.

Cuddles enjoying a piece of meat.

Willow enjoying a leg bone.

Scout enjoying it too.
We did give some to Hope too.

SYRUP MAKING & TIME WITH GRANDMA & GRANDPA!!

I went over to my son and dil's house. To hang out and have lunch with my beautiful granddaughters and dil Ashley.

Ashley wanted me to show her how to make my homemade cough syrup. So I had Makenzie help me.

Ashley and Makenzie smashed the horehound into very small pieces.

They did a great job. It is actually smaller than I get mine.

We measured out the sorghum, whiskey and lemon.
Then poured the smashed horehound into the pot.

Little miss helper helped to stir it.
While Kylie watched in her chair.

We got it all mixed together and bottled it up.

Kylie is active now. Not much she doesn't explore.
She is almost walking.

Kylie loves her snacks!

Makenzie is hanging out with me. Kaitlin had a 4H meeting.
So I brought some stuff for her to do while the meeting is going on.

Finally we made it back home. I was really praying she wouldn't be asleep. She was still awake and Grandpa got to read her some stories before bedtime.

The next morning we had breakfast after the outside chores.

This little one is growing up fast.

Today, Makenzie and I are hanging out at the library while Auntie Kaitlin is at work. We read tons of story books and made up several of our own stories.

She even played with some of the toys they have at the library.
Not sure how often they are cleaned.

But I did play Lego's with her.

After picking up Auntie Kaitlin from work we met with Ashley and Kylie for lunch. I enjoy spending time with all of them. The kids are growing up fast. Kylie will be turning 1 very soon.

WE GOT SNOW!!!

What is this I see.......... SNOW!
What?? As fast as it came it was already gone. So glad I took pictures. It's giving us a taste of what is to come.

The dogs were even checking it out.

Just to think we haven't even had Thanksgiving yet and we have snow.

We got our 1st offical snow and it's brutally cold outside!!!
The wind was blowing and it was snowing. The temperature said it was 14, but that wind cut right through you.

The silkies would barely come out. I don't blame them. I didn't even want to come out. I laid in bed and heard the wind all night. I just knew if I went out I would blow away. I just wanted to stay in my nice warm bed and nice warm house.

I am not sure what these guineas were doing. They were lined up???

The wind was really blowing and they decided this would be a good place to just lay down and hang out. They aren't even eating. I put food out but that isn't were I put it. Winter time I have the hardest time with guineas. They love the cold but they don't realize that they will freeze.

Pictures just can't seem to capture this scene.
The sun was glistening on the water as the wind blew and rippled across the pond. The red bush just sparkled with the sun hitting it and the wind blowing the leaves.

The sun just was popping in and out.
As cold as it was it sure was pretty to look out.
And I call this place home!!

CLOSING GARDEN DOWN FOR WINTER & ANIMALS!

So far the weather has been descent. I am not looking forward to the cold and snow. I do prefer spring and summer. But something about fall I like too.

Got the rest of the beds prepped and ready for winter.
I got the fabric cloth down in the rows. I did leave the cattle panels up that we used for the tomatoes. I thought this would be easier when it's planting time next year. Less work for Tim as he would be putting them it.

I have a few things still growing. I am gonna leave them for now. But I might not get it covered before the winter snow hits. The leeks are still doing great. I guess they like the cooler weather.

We are on a count down to butcher day for these yummy Thanksgiving turkeys.

They are so big now that they can't roost on the roosting bars.
They get so excited when they see people. Very social creatures.

I am praying for nice weather on our butcher day. It's harder when it's cold out. I know last year was cold and we had it set up pretty well to help keep the area warm. So if it is cold we will set it back up like that again. Just no snow!

You can tell it's getting colder outside. The guineas act crazier!
I have already noticed that a few of them have been staying down in the woods and coming in when I come out in the mornings.
Darn Guineas is all I can say.

The silkies are doing great!

I have 2 of my really small cochin hens in with the silkies. I just think they are too small to be running with the bigger hens and roosters. And I am worried about them with Mr. T too.

Been having frozen cow waterers in the mornings now.

Heifers are grazing well.

Chickens, Guineas and Turkeys are out everywhere so far.

Hope being silly. She sometimes just lays in the most strangest ways for long periods of time.

So now that it has been getting colder and temperatures have dropped. My entrance way will be the home for the rabbits water bottles until the weather warms back up.
Kaitlin did breed 3 of her rabbits. I was told the 20th of this month we should have some born. So I am excited about that.
Not looking forward to the rabbit waterers freezing. I don't like them being without water. Animals seem to want water more when it gets cold. So far we have had them freeze once.

Here is a video of how easy it is to move our heifers to a new paddock.
